Medical Office Assistant- Now Hiring


Strathcona Midwifery Collective is seeking two medical office assistants (full time and part time) to join our team. We are collective of midwives providing primary health care to pregnant people and their newborns during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. The medical office assistant will provide a full range of office administrative support services in our community-based clinic.

We are dedicated to working and building community in the Chinatown/Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. We serve a diverse clientele and aim to deliver inclusive care which affirms the dignity of those we serve regardless gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental health, physical or cognitive capabilities, socio-economic status, or ethnic background.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced health care environment and is competent with computers. We are a paperless office, extensively using electronic medical records for patients. We use an open-source program known as Oscar EMR. We are looking for someone who is passionate about working in maternity and newborn care, and who is warm, professional, caring, respectful and organized.

This position entails:

  • Cultivating good working relationships with our clients and care providers

  • Ensuring an administrative presence during business hours, welcoming and orienting clients to the clinic space.

  • Responding to patient and community queries by telephone, fax and email

  • Booking patient appointments in our clinic and in other professional clinics, including hospitals, ultrasound clinics and specialist clinics.

  • Creating and maintaining client files in Oscar EMR.

  • Supporting the Registered Midwives in clinical administration tasks.

  • Managing the intake of new clients.

  • Ordering and organizing medical and office supplies and equipment.

  • Overseeing the work of volunteers on occasion.

  • Managing our lending library and donations of baby items.

Qualifications:

  • ·Certification or training as a Medical Office Assistant (MOA) from an accredited institution, or relevant administrative experience.

  • Experienced in electronic medical records, OSCAR EMR experience an asset

  • Highly competent with Microsoft Office and Excel, with strong computer skills.

  • Friendly and professional with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and take initiative

  • Demonstrates critical thinking, ability to anticipate needs, compassion and client centred care.

  • Able to manage multiple conflicting priorities.

  • Able to communicate effectively as part of a high performing team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Organized and attentive to detail.

  • Able to work with sensitive and confidential material

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Demonstrates an interest in learning about our midwifery care practice, enthusiastic about the midwifery model of care in BC and excited to work in a midwifery practice in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver

  • Willingness to comply with any future Public Health Orders requiring vaccination and/or masking.  

  • Fluent communication in English, both written and verbal.

Languages in addition to English an asset.

Schedule:

  • 8 Hour Shift

  • Monday to Friday

Salary:
$24/hour. This position includes vacation and health benefits after successful probation.
